Vega DZA Pumps
The Vega DZA(S) is a flanged end-suction centrifugal pump with a stainless steel 304 casing and impeller, built to the DIN 24255 standard for irrigation, water transfer and pressure boosting. It comes in four frame sizes, 50, 65, 80 and 100, either as a stub-shaft (bareshaft) pump for your own motor or complete with a 220V, 380V or 525V motor. This guide explains the model codes, performance, materials and current prices.

Why choose a stainless steel DZA?
A cast iron end-suction pump is cheaper, but it rusts in aggressive or slightly acidic water, sheds iron into clean process water and seizes after standing idle. The DZA's casing and impeller are 304 stainless steel with a 316L shaft, so it suits borehole water with a low pH, food and beverage transfer, water treatment, and liquids compatible with 304 stainless steel. It also handles water with a little grit.
It is not self-priming. Like any end-suction centrifugal pump the DZA needs a flooded suction, or a foot valve and a full suction pipe, before it starts. Keep suction lift short and never run it dry: the mechanical seal fails in minutes without water.
Reading the model code
Take DZA 65-40-160/4.0: 65 is the suction flange (DN65), 40 the discharge flange (DN40), 160 the nominal impeller diameter in mm, and 4.0 the motor power in kW. A larger impeller gives more head; a larger flange size gives more flow.
Stub-shaft or complete with motor?
| Option | What you get | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Stub-shaft (bareshaft) | Pump only, for coupling to your own motor on a base plate | You have a motor, need a special voltage, or are replacing a worn pump end |
| Complete with motor | Pump and motor as one unit, 220V (to 2.2 kW), 380V or 525V | A new installation that should be ready to connect |

Shut-off head is the head at zero flow from the Vega performance table. Select at your working flow from the curve on the product page. – means not listed or not published.
Sizing a DZA pump
- Flow. Work out the flow you need in m³/h: irrigation area × application rate, or the transfer volume divided by the time available.
- Total head. Static height from water level to outlet + friction in the pipes and fittings + the pressure needed at the outlet (10 m per bar).
- Series. Larger flows need a larger frame: the 50 series for smaller duties, 65 and 80 for irrigation and transfer, 100 for high-volume work.
- Model. Choose the model whose curve passes through your flow at your head, close to the middle of the curve where efficiency is best.
- Motor. Match the supply: 220V single-phase up to 2.2 kW, otherwise 380V or 525V three-phase.
Worked example
A packhouse must transfer water at 20 m³/h to a tank 18 m above the pump, with about 7 m of pipe friction: total head 25 m. The 65-40-125/2.2 has a shut-off head of 26 m, too close to the duty. The 65-40-160/3.0 (31 m shut-off) or 65-40-160/4.0 (39 m) sit comfortably above it; check the curve at 20 m³/h and pick the smaller one that meets 25 m.

Installation notes
- Bolt the pump and motor to a rigid base and align the coupling on stub-shaft installations; misalignment destroys bearings and seals.
- Suction pipe one size larger than the pump inlet, short, airtight, with an eccentric reducer flat side up so no air collects.
- Fit valves on both sides so the pump can be removed without draining the system, and a non-return valve on the discharge.
- Support the pipework independently; the pump flanges must not carry pipe weight.
- Protect the motor with a correctly set overload, or use a Vega 30Y / 30A controller or VSD for dry-run and soft-start protection.

Frequently asked questions
What does DZA(S) 65-40-160/4.0 mean?
DN65 suction, DN40 discharge, a 160 mm nominal impeller and a 4.0 kW motor.
What is a stub-shaft or bareshaft pump?
The pump end without a motor, with a shaft extension for coupling to a separate motor on a base plate.
Is the Vega DZA self-priming?
No. It needs a flooded suction, or a foot valve and a primed suction pipe, before starting.
What temperature can the DZA handle?
Liquids from −20 °C to +110 °C, with a Viton, carbon and silicon carbide mechanical seal.
What pressure is the DZA rated for?
A maximum working pressure of 10 bar.
Why stainless steel instead of cast iron?
Stainless steel does not rust or discolour the water, resists low-pH borehole water and suits food, beverage and treatment duties.
Which motor voltage should I choose?
220V single-phase is offered up to 2.2 kW. Larger pumps and most farm and industrial sites use 380V or 525V three-phase.
How do I choose between the 50, 65, 80 and 100 series?
By flow. The flange size limits flow; pick the smallest series whose curve covers your flow at your head, then the model by impeller size and kW.
Need a DZA pump sized?
Send us the flow, the height and distance to the outlet, the liquid and the power on site. We will select the model and motor.
